AB 394  – REORGANIZATION OF THE CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

During the 2015 Nevada Legislative Session, legislators voted to approve Assembly Bill 394.  This bill provided that the Clark County School District (CCSD) be reorganized by no later than the 2018-19 school year. Two Legislative committees were formed, one Advisory Committee to develop a plan to reorganize CCSD and a Technical Advisory Committee to provide assistance.

Following a series of Legislative meetings and eight community input meetings, a regulation was drafted and approved by the State Board of Education and the Nevada Legislative Commission on Friday, September 9, 2016. The regulation will be part of Nevada Administrative Code 388G.  The requirements of the regulation are that certain processes be in place for the 2017-2018 school year. CCSD has begun work toward implementation of the plan to prepare for the upcoming school year. This includes communication, training, and preparation of guidance materials to assist administrators, teachers, staff, and parents for the changes that are coming. As components are developed, they will be posted to this website for open access by all stakeholders.

CCSD is working with the committee members to explore several different approaches to the reorganization. The District has made several presentations to both committees and has provided information related to district structure, schools, and finance among others.  The Superintendent and the Board of School Trustees are working collaboratively with the committees to find solutions that fall in line with the goals of AB 394 while still providing access and opportunity to all students.
